Sermon – Giving God our Best for His Best
Sceptre – Malachi 1
Giving our best to get God’s best. God want us to give us His best this year, and we must be willing to give our best to God as well.
This book of Malachi is
1. A Covenant Book – Malachi 2:5: 3:1
2. A Connecting Book – This book holds the past and looks into the future – Malachi 4:4-6
This year there will be a connection in your life, connection with God and His promises
3. A Consoling Book – Malachi 3:10b. This year consolation has come, solution has come to all the needs of your life
This book of Malachi can be summarised as below;
Chapter 1 talks about the burden of the entreaty as shown by the prophet. God has given you a peculiar place in His kingdom
Chapter 2 is on behaviour in view of eternity. Vs 6
Chapter 3 is on blessings in its entirety. Vs 10b-12
Chapter 4 is on the beginning of the end. Vs 5,6
Something new is going to begin in your life.
God want us to have His best, but we must be born again, become a real child of God. You gave your hearts, life to Jesus, so that you can have His salvation. But then you press forward to consecrate, absolute surrender unto the Lord, then you are sanctified. And you desire the power of the Holy Ghost, tarrying for the supernatural power to come upon your soul. Keep on after obtaining all these experiences, giving your best to the Lord, then you will have His very best for your life.
Point 1. The Confirmation of Passionate Compassion for the Sons of God
1. Vs 1-2 – Confirmation of love for Jacob. God wants to confirm to you how much He loves you.
2. Vs 3-4 – Consideration of less love for Esau.
God has limited love, less love for Esau. This was like hatred for Esau. This is not hatred of bitterness, anger but hatred of comparison. Just like we love God more than our earthly parents.
3. Vs 5 – Commendation of the Limitlessness of God
Your eyes will see the glory of God this year.
1. Confirmation of love for Jacob – Malachi 1:1-2
2 Corinthians 6:17; Deuteronomy 7:3-9; Ephesians 5:25
How to become a son of God? You leave your sins behind, and come to put your trust in Jesus Christ Who died for you. Then you become a son of God. Just like Jacob, as he believed in God, left his deception behind, and trusted in the Lord.
It is your repentance, turning away from sins and the world, that makes you a son of God. Then the Lord loves you continually. This love of God now carries responsibility, that you will not marry unbeliever nor be friends of the world. Unequal yoke will bring destruction, stop the flow of God’s love in your life. Have nothing to do with occultism, powers of darkness, totally reject everything of darkness now that you are born again.
Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so. Then you are to reciprocate this love of God, to love Him and keep His commandments to a thousand generation.
If you are part of the Church, He loves you. And the purpose of that love and you coming into the church is that you will be holy, spotless, unblemished before God.
2. Consideration of less love for Esau – Malachi 1:3-4
Matthew 5:45; Hebrews 12:14-17; Obadiah 6,10
God loves the world, but He loves the church more than the world. This love is a comparison not hatred.
There is limited love for the people of the world.
You see Jacob supplanted Esau, he repented and even wanted to do his restitution but Esau rejected this, and was still nursing his hatred for Jacob. Esau did not follow peace nor holiness with anybody, that was why he could not experience the fullness of the love of God and His provision unlike Jacob. He did not bring himself to place of repentance, always seeking hatred, animosity and vengeance against Jacob.
3. Commendation of the limitlessness of God – vs 5; Deuteronomy 11:7,21; Luke 10:23-24,19
Your eyes shall the benefits of the kingdom. Our God is unlimited, limitless. He will do great things in your life this year in Jesus Name.
All that your eyes will see this year, you will be so surprised, because of the limitless ness of God.
Point 2. The Condemnation of Polluted Contemptible Sacrifices for God
Malachi 1:6-8; Deuteronomy 15:21; 1 Samuel 2:17; Ezekiel 22:26-27; Hosea 8:8,12
This is the controversy that the Lord had with the children of Israel, and with so called contemporary Christians.
Polluted and contemptible.
They took the love of God for granted. They misinterpreted and misconceived this love of God. They wanted the permission to sin, and to offer polluted and contemptible sacrifices
The lords will love the subjects, but the subjects are to show loyalty, affection for their lords as well. The father will love the sons, but the sons are to respect and honour their fathers.
3 things here;
1. God is Father – vs 6,7; Deuteronomy 32:6
As a Father, He wants relationships, affections and honour between Him and us. He want us to honour Him.
2. God is Master – vs 6, John 13:13,14: Ephesians 6:6-9
As a Master, He wants responsibility from us as His servants. We are to do the Will of God not with eye service, but doing all as unto the Lord. Love God with all your mind, heart and life. As His servants we are to fear, obey and be responsible unto Him.
3. God is Governor – vs 8, Psalms 22:1,7-8,15-16,27-28
He wants royalty from us His subjects.
God has given us the best already, given us Jesus Christ, christian experiences, and even heaven. How are you returning that favour back to God? Do you offer your best unto God? For the children of Israel, they were offering polluted and contemptible sacrifices unto Him, and these are not acceptable unto God. Is this the very best thing you can offer unto the Lord? Whatever thing you do in the house of the Lord, try and measure that service with what you are doing in the world. Make a comparison between your service in the house of the Lord and what we do in our secular employment.
The best and not the worst, the first and not the leftover, the pure and not the polluted, the costly and not the cheap, That is what we should offer unto the Lord.
You cannot offer any blemish thing unto the Lord.
The Lord wants the people to show some love, respect and honour for Him.
There must be a purpose when you render your service unto the Lord. Always examine what you do, have you given your best for the Lord. Have I do my best? God has no pleasure in you when you are a sinner, a robber, disobeying God’s commandments, God cannot accept that tithe nor offerings from you, He will not accept that offerings from you. God does not accept your person neither will He accept any offering from your hands.
Even your attitude, no respect, honour, devotion, affections, and He will not accept these sacrifices.
Anything you are offering unto the Lord, your heart is important.
When you count the word of God as a strange thing, He cannot accept your offering.
You must consider the Personality, Power and Person of God whenever you come to offer your sacrifice and service unto the Lord.
Point 3. Consecration of Pure Commendable Service for God
Malachi 1:11,14; Leviticus 21:17,21,23; 22:20-21; Ephesians 5:25-27; Philippians 2:14-16; 1 Thessalonians 5:22-24
For this year to be different, then our commitments, responsibility, lifestyle, behaviour, character must be different.
What you do to the Lord, you must be conscious that you are offering this to God. It must be the very best, pure, holy and righteous.
The one that offer the unclean deliberately, you are cursed. You offer worthless thing unto the Lord, because you think that your God is worthless.
How is it that you don’t count the service not important?
Our God is a Great King. He merited and deserves the very best, and our best we will give unto our God.
If you are going to offer anything unto the Lord, you yourself must be right, pure and be saved. If you are not born again, don’t offer anything unto the Lord. If you are not right before the Lord, you can teach the word of God. If your life is not right, you cannot come and offer anything unto the Lord. The things you offer does not show you respect leadership.
This is the word of God. We are people that want to give our very best unto the Lord, and then God will give us His very best.
Your family life affects your service unto the Lord. Your life is very important in the ministry. This is the Spirit’s work, not just a secular work.
The Lord will cleanse us so that we can be focussed and be prepared for Heaven. Our goal is to make heaven not just the work in the church.
Whatever you can not do without murmuring and debating, drop it.
If you are not keeping your salvation, our labour is in vain. I pray our labour will not be in vain over you in Jesus Name.
To offer anything acceptable before the Great Governor and King, our God, abstain from all appearance of evil.
Give Him the best, He merit, deserve and demand the best, then you will have His best. The harvest of the blessings of God will be the very best in your life in Jesus Name.
