Sceptre – 1 Thessalonians 3:12,13; 1:3,8,9,10; Acts 17:1-5; 1 Thessalonians 2:8; 3:5-7,10-13; 1 Timothy 4:8; Matthew 5:20; Hebrews 12:14

This church was a good church, their lives testified to Jesus as the Saviour, and that people will turn from their idols to the Lord Jesus Christ.
As Paul and his team went to the city, there was persecution that they suffered, that they were driven away from that city. But there was the passion in Paul’s heart to know the state of the church there. So when he couldn’t go, he sent Timothy unto them to know their state, and see how they do. Timothy brought a good report about the church, so Paul was very happy and praying passionately for the church.
The prayers of these apostles in the bible were very illustrative for us today, on how we need to pray for the church of God. Each leader must be praying for the church night and day, each parent must be praying for their children night and day, each individual must be praying for their friends night and day, praying on the subject of righteousness and holiness.
Paul prayed for something very necessary, important, indispensable and essential. This is what we get us to heaven and glory. He knew that righteousness and holiness is very important. Godliness, righteousness and holiness, we need to concentrate on this important virtue in our lives.
Such leaders are to keep on praying for their fellow ministers, members until they follow after godliness, holiness and righteousness consistently.

3 points;

1. Impressive Progress in Heavenly Love and Guidance

1 Thessalonians 3:12,13; 4:9,10; 2 Thessalonians 1:3; John 13:34,35,1; Galatians 5:6,13,22-26; 1 Peter 1:22,23; Ephesians 4:31

This increase of love is not something you produce by human efforts, you need the grace of God to do this. When you are controlled by God, love will be easy because God is love.
God teaches His own children on how to love as that is His Nature. And when we abide by His teaching, then you will find out that this love will be express through you.
Every remembrance of the church at Thessalonia brought joy into the heart of Paul the Apostle, they were saved, separated from the world and steadfast into the Lord. This is what new converts should be for their leaders following them up. We are to demonstrate this kind of love, that is thoughtful, makes others happy that their labour over us is not in vain.
A new commandment He gives unto us, the implication is that we should not go back to the old covenant to retaliate those that offend us.
The same example of Christ, that despite the pain, sufferings he was facing, He still love His disciples to the very end, so we are to love people no matter what we are going through in life.
This is the mind of love that affect your heart, attitude, behaviour, things you do to people,
In. Christ Jesus, circumcision is nothing, but faith that works by love. No matter your liberty, don’t forget love.
Your Liberty ends at a point where your neighbour might suffers.
If you don’t have the fruit of the Spirit, you are not of Christ.
Let the difference between the world and you be very clear.
We know the presence of love by the absence of something. When there is love, there will be the absence of bitterness, anger, wrath, clamour, evil speaking, malice. And where there is love, there will be the presence of kindness, tenderness, and forgiveness.

2. Inspired Petition for Hearts established in Godliness.

1 Thessalonians 3:13; Hebrews 13:8,9; Psalms 112:7,8; 57:7; 108:1; 2 Thessalonians 3:16; James 5:8; 2 Peter 1:3,4

Paul said that he will not stop praying for them until their hearts are established unblameable in holiness and righteousness. Continual experience of holiness and righteousness in our lives.
Let your heart be established in grace, not just when you are happy, or have your prayers answered.
In this world, there is what we called evil tidings, people who want to frustrate and oppress your life.
My heart is fixed.
We must be able to sing in all weathers and situation of life. Be a champion over all your problems and challenge of your life.
The Lord is calling us to steadfastness, to remain steady in our walk and service unto the Lord, no matter what the unbelievers do or say against us.
Paul wanted to go there for the purpose to establish them in the faith, in the Truth and in godliness. And to perfect that which is lacking in them. This is what we are to do as leaders that go around to visit the brethren and the churches. To establish the people in godliness and holiness.
Godliness is an heavenly virtue, that only God can impart this into our hearts. He does that work of grace in our lives. Only God can do this for us in answer to prayer of faith. Godliness affect every part of our lives, hearts, and affection.

The people who are holy are know as:
– Those people with holy Affection in their hearts
– Those whose Will are submissive to God in holiness.
– Those whose ways are guided and directed by the Holy Spirit.
-Those whose tongues are held by the holy bridle – James 1:26; 3:1-2
The one who is not able to control the tongue we can see, will not be able to control that part of the body we don’t see. A talkative is a sinner.
– These are people whose devotion in life is to glorify and honour God
– Those whose temper is control by the Holy God.
– Those whose have become a partaker of the divine nature – 2 Peter 1:3,4
God gives us His nature.

3. Importunate Prayer for Holiness before God

1 Thessalonians 3:10-13; Luke 1:74,75; Romans 6:19,22; 2 Corinthians 7:1; Ephesians 4:24-32; 5:25

Holiness is something we ought to pray for. Africans are reputable for prayers all over the world, but what do they pray for? Not holiness, just for the mundane things of this world. We ought to pray for holiness and godliness for our members and the church as leaders. We ought to be wise. This is the most important virtue, that will take us to heaven, we ought to pray about.
We need to pray for more holiness and righteousness in our lives and churches.
Before we can have the everlasting life, there must be holiness.
You need that cleansing from all the filthiness of this world by the blood of the Lamb, every day. Just like you are taking your bath, brushing your teeth every day, we go onto the Lord for cleansing by the blood, and for more holiness every day.
Put on the new man, the righteousness, holiness and godliness every day.
Be angry at sin, but don’t let’s it get into bitterness, clamour, fighting. Be angry at sin, but love the sinner. Let no corrupt communication, the language we use in public should be words that are clean, holy and righteous.
Let’s see that holiness at home, and between one another, lets demonstrate the word of God we are learning in this church.
Think that as you become a member of this church, the church was glorious before you came, and your presence in this church will make this church more glorious. This is the purpose of the Lord for bringing you into this church.
I will be holy and without blemish. The Lord is able to do this in our lives.

Ponder on this! Your liberty ends at a point where your neighbour might suffers. Pastor (Dr) W.F Kumuyi.
